Lines and fittings (suspension)
Vehicle description: class 8 heavy duty trucks. The air suspension control valve supply line was not plumbed through an air pressure protection valve. In the event of a failure, there would be loss of air pressure in the 'b' system air reservoir that supplies air pressure for the front steer axle brakes.
Remedy: Dealers will install the necessary air pressure protection valve.
-
Air (parking brake)
The bendix mv-2 parking control valve installed in vehicles without a desiccant style air dryer may experience a seal failure. This failure may allow the valve to move from the park position to the release position, allowing the parking brakes to release.
Remedy: Rebuild the bendix mv-2 parking control valve.
-
Electrical system: wiring
Grounding of the AC power source may be defective (or there may be no electrical grounding at the AC power source).
Remedy: Rewire engine block heater to assure proper grounding.
-
Multiple axle (suspension)
Axle seat used on rear axle may be too hard (brittle) and could crack.
Remedy: Replace suspect axle seat.

How do I know if my 1988 White GMC Wcm has an open recall?
Enter your 17-character VIN above. The VIN is on the driver's side dashboard (visible through the windshield), the driver's door jamb sticker, and your registration or insurance card. The check runs against NHTSA's live database and tells you which campaigns list your vehicle. 4 campaigns currently list the 1988 White GMC Wcm; your car may already have been repaired under some of them.
Is the recall repair free?
Yes. Under federal law, manufacturers must fix safety recalls at no charge for vehicles up to 15 years old from the date of sale to the first owner. Contact any authorised White GMC dealer with your VIN and the NHTSA campaign number (for example 88V113000).
What is the difference between a recall and a complaint?
A recall is a safety campaign filed by the manufacturer or ordered by NHTSA, with a defined defect and remedy. A complaint is a report an owner sent to NHTSA; it is not verified, but patterns of complaints are what trigger NHTSA investigations and, eventually, recalls.
