  1. Seats

NHTSA 97V037000 Reported 624,433 vehicles potentially affected GENERAL MOTORS CORP.

Vehicle description: extended cab and 2-door utility vehicles equipped with reclining seats and the easy-entry feature. These vehicles exhibit a condition in which a pinch point exists in the recliner mechanism that can trap and pinch a person's hand or finger(s) when the easy-entry feature is activated.

Remedy: Dealers will install a protector cover over the recliner mechanism.

  2. Bead (tires)

NHTSA 96V117000 Reported 5,773 vehicles potentially affected GENERAL MOTORS CORP.

These tires have bead damage which occured during tire mounting.

Remedy: Dealers will demount each tire and inspect for bead damage. If bead damage is found, the tire will be replaced.

  3. Vehicle speed control

NHTSA 96V057000 Reported 379,004 vehicles potentially affected GENERAL MOTORS CORP.

These vehicles were assembled with the throttle cable contacting the dash mat which could bind the throttle. This does not meet with the maximum return times required by federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 124, "accelerator control systems."

Remedy: Dealers will inspect for adequate throttle cable to dash mat clearance, and if there is insufficient clearance, cut out a portion of the dash mat to provide proper clearance.

  4. Steering wheel/handle bar (steering)

NHTSA 96V004000 Reported 3,047 vehicles potentially affected GENERAL MOTORS CORP.

The steering column upper intermediate-shaft nut may not be torqued to proper specifications. The nut could loosen and detach allowing the through-bolt that secures the upper intermediate-shaft to the lower steering column shaft joint to fall out.

Remedy: Dealers will torque the suspect fasteners to the proper specifications.

  5. Seat belts: front

NHTSA 95V241000 Reported 630,099 vehicles potentially affected GENERAL MOTORS CORP.

If both the lap-belt and shoulder-belt energy management loops on the front seat belt assemblies release at or near the same time, acceleration forces can cause the buckle release mechanism to activate and allow the buckle to separate from the latch.

Remedy: Dealers will remove the stitching that creates the energy management loop in the shoulder belt(s).

  6. Seat belts: front

NHTSA 95V242000 Reported 40 vehicles potentially affected GENERAL MOTORS CORP.

These vehicles were built with front seat belt systems with no energy management loops and may not meet the head injury criteria requirements of FMVSS no. 208, "occupant crash protection."

Remedy: Dealers will replace the retractor portion of the seat belt assembly(s) with one having the newly designed energy-management twin-loop system.

  7. Cooling unit and lines (power train)

NHTSA 95V026000 Reported 13,853 vehicles potentially affected GENERAL MOTORS CORP.

Due to a thin case casting, an external transmission leak can occur.

Remedy: Dealers will inspect the transmission case assembly for the involved case casting. If the assembly is involved, the transmission will be replaced.

Checking a specific 1995 Chevrolet C30

How do I know if my 1995 Chevrolet C30 has an open recall?

Enter your 17-character VIN above. The VIN is on the driver's side dashboard (visible through the windshield), the driver's door jamb sticker, and your registration or insurance card. The check runs against NHTSA's live database and tells you which campaigns list your vehicle. 7 campaigns currently list the 1995 Chevrolet C30; your car may already have been repaired under some of them.

Is the recall repair free?

Yes. Under federal law, manufacturers must fix safety recalls at no charge for vehicles up to 15 years old from the date of sale to the first owner. Contact any authorised Chevrolet dealer with your VIN and the NHTSA campaign number (for example 95V026000).

What is the difference between a recall and a complaint?

A recall is a safety campaign filed by the manufacturer or ordered by NHTSA, with a defined defect and remedy. A complaint is a report an owner sent to NHTSA; it is not verified, but patterns of complaints are what trigger NHTSA investigations and, eventually, recalls.

Recall counts are safety campaigns that list this model year; whether a particular car was already repaired depends on its VIN. How this data is compiled.
