  1. Hood (structure)

NHTSA 91V135000 Reported 290,408 vehicles potentially affected GENERAL MOTORS CORP.

Secondary hood latch assembly on these vehicles may not be properly adjusted and could become bent. This will lead to a condition where full primary latch engagement is not attained.

Remedy: Replace the primary hood latch assembly, the secondary hood latch assembly, and the support bracket.

  2. Hinge and attachments (structure)

NHTSA 89V225000 Reported 170,769 vehicles potentially affected GENERAL MOTORS CORP.

A door hinge (upper or lower) may break while opening or closing the door making it difficult to reposition and close properly.

Remedy: Replace door hinges on both doors.

  3. Latch (latches/locks/linkages)

NHTSA 88V039000 Reported 282,052 vehicles potentially affected GENERAL MOTORS CORP.

  4. Latch (latches/locks/linkages)

NHTSA 87V062000 Reported 2,020 vehicles potentially affected GENERAL MOTORS CORP.

Loss of skid plate could lead to disengagement of both secondary and primary hood latches.

Remedy: Install a secondary latch skid plate and/or secondary latch skid plate retaining screws.

  5. Latch (latches/locks/linkages)

NHTSA 86V165000 Reported 4,844 vehicles potentially affected GENERAL MOTORS CORP.

Secondary hood latch may not properly engage due to contact with support bracket and/or the primary latch return spring. Consequence of defect: if this occurs while vehicle is in motion, hood could open and contact the windshield, affecting the drivers vision area; this could result in a crash without warning.

Remedy: Install secondary latch skid plate on corsica and beretta models. Also, install a revised secondary latch assembly on beretta models.

Checking a specific 1987 Chevrolet Beretta

How do I know if my 1987 Chevrolet Beretta has an open recall?

Enter your 17-character VIN above. The VIN is on the driver's side dashboard (visible through the windshield), the driver's door jamb sticker, and your registration or insurance card. The check runs against NHTSA's live database and tells you which campaigns list your vehicle. 5 campaigns currently list the 1987 Chevrolet Beretta; your car may already have been repaired under some of them.

Is the recall repair free?

Yes. Under federal law, manufacturers must fix safety recalls at no charge for vehicles up to 15 years old from the date of sale to the first owner. Contact any authorised Chevrolet dealer with your VIN and the NHTSA campaign number (for example 86V165000).

What is the difference between a recall and a complaint?

A recall is a safety campaign filed by the manufacturer or ordered by NHTSA, with a defined defect and remedy. A complaint is a report an owner sent to NHTSA; it is not verified, but patterns of complaints are what trigger NHTSA investigations and, eventually, recalls.
