  1. Anchorage (seat belts)

NHTSA 95V173000 Reported 2,216,325 vehicles potentially affected GENERAL MOTORS CORP.

These vehicles were assembled with rear outboard safety belt anchorages that may not withstand the required load. This does not comply with FMVSS no.210, "seat belt assembly anchorages."

Remedy: Dealers will replace the existing anchor bolts with a new shoulder bolt and thread locking adhesive. Additionally, noise control patches will be applied at each anchorage.

  2. Electrical system: wiring

NHTSA 92V066000 Reported 33 vehicles potentially affected GENERAL MOTORS CORP.

The optional remote entry module may have a fault which causes random actuation of interior lamps, door locks, and/or tailgate release. This actuation may occur while the vehicle is in use or unattended.

Remedy: Replace the remote entry module with a newly revised module to prevent random actuation.

  3. Automatic transmission (power train)

NHTSA 91V214000 Reported 10,141 vehicles potentially affected GENERAL MOTORS CORP.

The reverse servo apply pin may bind in the case which could cause reverse band distress (loss or slipping of reverse), reverse band drag in drive range (poor performance -- poor power), or the transmission to remain in reverse while the shift indicator shows neutral gear position.

Remedy: Replace the transaxle where required.

Checking a specific 1992 Oldsmobile Cutlass

How do I know if my 1992 Oldsmobile Cutlass has an open recall?

Enter your 17-character VIN above. The VIN is on the driver's side dashboard (visible through the windshield), the driver's door jamb sticker, and your registration or insurance card. The check runs against NHTSA's live database and tells you which campaigns list your vehicle. 3 campaigns currently list the 1992 Oldsmobile Cutlass; your car may already have been repaired under some of them.

Is the recall repair free?

Yes. Under federal law, manufacturers must fix safety recalls at no charge for vehicles up to 15 years old from the date of sale to the first owner. Contact any authorised Oldsmobile dealer with your VIN and the NHTSA campaign number (for example 91V214000).

What is the difference between a recall and a complaint?

A recall is a safety campaign filed by the manufacturer or ordered by NHTSA, with a defined defect and remedy. A complaint is a report an owner sent to NHTSA; it is not verified, but patterns of complaints are what trigger NHTSA investigations and, eventually, recalls.
