  1. Fan (engine and engine cooling)

NHTSA 78V226000 Reported 120,000 vehicles potentially affected FORD MOTOR COMPANY

The engine cooling fan blades may crack under high speed operating conditions. Fragments may separate and damage the engine components, and if the hood is open and the engine is running, blade fragments could fly out from the vehicle and injure nearby persons.

Remedy: The dealer will, where necessary, install a new fan free of charge.

  2. Gear box (other than rack and pinion) (steering)

NHTSA 77V218000 Reported 40,000 vehicles potentially affected FORD MOTOR COMPANY

On the involved vehicles, the manual steering gears may contain steering gear recirculatory balls that could fracture. This fracturing is a result of improper heat-treatment during manufacture and can eventually cause increased steering effort.

Remedy: The dealer will inspect and, if necessary, replace the ball bearings of the steering gear, without charge to owner.

Remedy: Owner will be sent an improved fuel filler cap to replace the defective cap. Owner may install it himself, or have it installed by dealer, without charge.

  4. Column shift (power train)

NHTSA 77V140000 Reported 9,000 vehicles potentially affected FORD MOTOR COMPANY

The involved vehicles were fitted with tilt steering columns containing transmission control inserts intended for trucks rather than passenger vehicles. This may cause the transmission selector pointer to be misaligned and the possibility of starting the engine when the selector is between the neutral (n) and drive (d) detents and the…

Remedy: Dealer will inspect and, if necessary, replace the transmission shift control insert, without charge to owner.

Checking a specific 1977 Ford Granada

How do I know if my 1977 Ford Granada has an open recall?

Enter your 17-character VIN above. The VIN is on the driver's side dashboard (visible through the windshield), the driver's door jamb sticker, and your registration or insurance card. The check runs against NHTSA's live database and tells you which campaigns list your vehicle. 5 campaigns currently list the 1977 Ford Granada; your car may already have been repaired under some of them.

Is the recall repair free?

Yes. Under federal law, manufacturers must fix safety recalls at no charge for vehicles up to 15 years old from the date of sale to the first owner. Contact any authorised Ford dealer with your VIN and the NHTSA campaign number (for example 76V180000).

What is the difference between a recall and a complaint?

A recall is a safety campaign filed by the manufacturer or ordered by NHTSA, with a defined defect and remedy. A complaint is a report an owner sent to NHTSA; it is not verified, but patterns of complaints are what trigger NHTSA investigations and, eventually, recalls.

Recall counts are safety campaigns that list this model year; whether a particular car was already repaired depends on its VIN. How this data is compiled.
