  1. Carrier/rack (equipment)

NHTSA 82V024000 Reported 12,500 vehicles potentially affected FORD MOTOR COMPANY

The reinforcement for the in-box spare tire carrier may have been attached using incorrect hex head bolts. If the carrier and reinforcement attaching bolts are incorrect, the potential exists for the tire sidewall to be damaged or weakened by extended contact with the sharp edges of the bolt heads.

Remedy: Dealer will replace bolts and any damaged spare tires at no cost to owner.

  2. Mounting (fuel system)

NHTSA 80V103000 Reported 24,400 vehicles potentially affected FORD MOTOR COMPANY

The involved vehicles were manufactured without the midship fuel tank protective shields. As a result, they do not conform to federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 301, "fuel system integrity", due to excessive fuel spillage upon frontal impact.

Remedy: The involved vehicles will be inspected and, if necessary, a fuel tank shield will be installed at no charge to owner.

The involved chassis cabs were improperly equipped with outside rearview mirrors with a reflective surface area of twenty square inches, which does not comply with federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 111, "rearview mirrors". This requires vehicles with a gvwr of more that 10,000 lbs. To be equipped with outside rearview mirrors of…

Remedy: Dealer will install appropriate outside rear view mirrors at no charge to owners.

  5. Column shift (power train)

NHTSA 79V261000 Reported 80,000 vehicles potentially affected FORD MOTOR COMPANY

The parking pawl actuating rod in the transmission may have an insufficient or cracked weld. This can cause the park cam end to separate from the rod itself, preventing the parking pawl from engaging the parking gear when the selector is placed in the park position.

Remedy: Dealer will replace the defective parking pawl actuating rod free of charge.

Checking a specific 1980 Ford F350

How do I know if my 1980 Ford F350 has an open recall?

Enter your 17-character VIN above. The VIN is on the driver's side dashboard (visible through the windshield), the driver's door jamb sticker, and your registration or insurance card. The check runs against NHTSA's live database and tells you which campaigns list your vehicle. 5 campaigns currently list the 1980 Ford F350; your car may already have been repaired under some of them.

Is the recall repair free?

Yes. Under federal law, manufacturers must fix safety recalls at no charge for vehicles up to 15 years old from the date of sale to the first owner. Contact any authorised Ford dealer with your VIN and the NHTSA campaign number (for example 79V261000).

What is the difference between a recall and a complaint?

A recall is a safety campaign filed by the manufacturer or ordered by NHTSA, with a defined defect and remedy. A complaint is a report an owner sent to NHTSA; it is not verified, but patterns of complaints are what trigger NHTSA investigations and, eventually, recalls.

Recall counts are safety campaigns that list this model year; whether a particular car was already repaired depends on its VIN. How this data is compiled.
