  1. Suspension: lower arm

NHTSA 89V052000 Reported 500,000 vehicles potentially affected CHRYSLER CORPORATION

Front suspension crossmember may corrode and fail at lower control arm rear pivot mounts if operated where salt is used to aid in snow removal.

Remedy: Install attachment reinforcement brackets to prevent control arm detachment as a result of corrosion weakening.

  2. Hoses, lines/piping, and fittings (service brakes)

NHTSA 83V060000 Reported 3,785 vehicles potentially affected CHRYSLER CORPORATION

Location of hydraulic brake tube to both rear wheels causes interference and chafing between the tubes and rear suspension trailing arm pivot brackets.

Remedy: Dealer will inspect rear wheel brake tubes and reroute to ensure proper tube to pivot bracket clearance. Any damaged tubes will also be replaced.

  3. Hoses, lines/piping, and fittings (service brakes)

NHTSA 82V123000 Reported 50,000 vehicles potentially affected CHRYSLER CORPORATION

Hydraulic brake tubing routed to the left rear wheel brake system may have been bent out of shape during assembly and could chafe against the exhaust system hanger bolt.

Remedy: Dealer will inspect and relocate tube, if necessary. A retaining clip will be installed to ensure adequate clearance for the tubing; any damaged tubes will also be replaced.

  4. Electrical (equipment)

NHTSA 82V092000 Reported 479 vehicles potentially affected CHRYSLER CORPORATION

The travel computer system wiring, on the involved vehicles, may be improperly connected. This condition can cause damage to internal components.

Remedy: The wiring will be reconnected to ensure proper functioning of ignition system..

  5. Filler pipe and cap (fuel system)

NHTSA 82V091000 Reported 5,234 vehicles potentially affected CHRYSLER CORPORATION

The involved vehicles may be equipped with an electrical fuel filler door release which is activated through a coiled current carrying wire (a solenoid). A short in the solenoid could cause sparking at the attaching screws of the solenoid.

Remedy: A solenoid ground wire will be installed, by the dealer, to prevent sparking of solenoid.

Checking a specific 1983 Dodge 600

How do I know if my 1983 Dodge 600 has an open recall?

Enter your 17-character VIN above. The VIN is on the driver's side dashboard (visible through the windshield), the driver's door jamb sticker, and your registration or insurance card. The check runs against NHTSA's live database and tells you which campaigns list your vehicle. 5 campaigns currently list the 1983 Dodge 600; your car may already have been repaired under some of them.

Is the recall repair free?

Yes. Under federal law, manufacturers must fix safety recalls at no charge for vehicles up to 15 years old from the date of sale to the first owner. Contact any authorised Dodge dealer with your VIN and the NHTSA campaign number (for example 82V091000).

What is the difference between a recall and a complaint?

A recall is a safety campaign filed by the manufacturer or ordered by NHTSA, with a defined defect and remedy. A complaint is a report an owner sent to NHTSA; it is not verified, but patterns of complaints are what trigger NHTSA investigations and, eventually, recalls.

Recall counts are safety campaigns that list this model year; whether a particular car was already repaired depends on its VIN. How this data is compiled.
