  1. Seats

NHTSA 99V018000 Reported 41,260 vehicles potentially affected BLUE BIRD BODY COMPANY

Vehicle description: school buses. The wall side attaching bolts for some of the passenger seats may have been installed too close to the edge of the seat ledge and in the wrong attaching hole resulting in weakening of the seat ledge at the attachment points.

Remedy: Blue bird will furnish to distributors and owners, parts and instructions necessary to strengthen the passenger seat attachment at the wall side.

  2. Seats

NHTSA 96V126001 Reported 11,371 vehicles potentially affected BLUE BIRD BODY COMPANY

Vehicle description: school buses equipped with bostrom driver's seat model f222 or bostrum "routemaster" seat. Blue bird option 2821 or 2824. The seat pedestals are fatigue cracking adjacent to the weld which secures the pedestal's upper plate to the upper, telescoping portion of the adjustable column support.

Remedy: Dealers will repair these pedestals with a newly designed pedestal bracket kit.

  3. Body (structure)

NHTSA 96V073000 Reported 18,000 vehicles potentially affected BLUE BIRD BODY COMPANY

Passenger's clothing can unknowingly become caught in the forward handrails at bus doors when exiting the bus.

Remedy: Owners will be directed to remove all forward handrails. Provisions will be made for those owners operating in states which mandate a forward handrail that a replacement handrail will be provided.

  4. Knee bolster (air bags)

NHTSA 95V051000 Reported 2,309 vehicles potentially affected BLUE BIRD BODY COMPANY

The aisle side styrofoam knee pads on the subject barriers are 11" wide and not 14.5" as required by FMVSS no. 222, "school bus passenger seating and crash protection."

Remedy: Dealers will replace the incorrect pad with the correct 14.5" knee pad.

Checking a specific 1994 Blue Bird Gpwb

How do I know if my 1994 Blue Bird Gpwb has an open recall?

Enter your 17-character VIN above. The VIN is on the driver's side dashboard (visible through the windshield), the driver's door jamb sticker, and your registration or insurance card. The check runs against NHTSA's live database and tells you which campaigns list your vehicle. 4 campaigns currently list the 1994 Blue Bird Gpwb; your car may already have been repaired under some of them.

Is the recall repair free?

Yes. Under federal law, manufacturers must fix safety recalls at no charge for vehicles up to 15 years old from the date of sale to the first owner. Contact any authorised Blue Bird dealer with your VIN and the NHTSA campaign number (for example 95V051000).

What is the difference between a recall and a complaint?

A recall is a safety campaign filed by the manufacturer or ordered by NHTSA, with a defined defect and remedy. A complaint is a report an owner sent to NHTSA; it is not verified, but patterns of complaints are what trigger NHTSA investigations and, eventually, recalls.

Recall counts are safety campaigns that list this model year; whether a particular car was already repaired depends on its VIN. How this data is compiled.
