-
Filler pipe and cap (fuel system)
The fuel filler neck solder joint can develop cracks or pin hole leaks, which does not comply with FMVSS no. 301, "fuel system integrity." the cracks and holes can allow fuel vapor and fuel leakage.
Remedy: Dealers will inspect the fuel tank assembly and replace those which exhibit the cracks or pin hole leaks.
-
Anchorage (seat belts)
The metal latchplates may not engage the buckle assemblies, causing a "no latch" condition. Movement of the seat occupant in this condition could cause latchplate release from the buckle.
Remedy: Replace the retractor assembly for the safety belt (front and rear in coupes and front only in convertibles).
-
Windshield (visibility)
Poor bond adhesion between the windshield glass and the mounting, which could allow the windshield to separate from the vehicle during a collision. This fails to conform with FMVSS 212.
Remedy: Remove all sealer from windshield and mounting; apply new bonding and sealant material, and reinstall windshield.

Checking a specific 1991 Pontiac Firebird
How do I know if my 1991 Pontiac Firebird has an open recall?
Enter your 17-character VIN above. The VIN is on the driver's side dashboard (visible through the windshield), the driver's door jamb sticker, and your registration or insurance card. The check runs against NHTSA's live database and tells you which campaigns list your vehicle. 3 campaigns currently list the 1991 Pontiac Firebird; your car may already have been repaired under some of them.
Is the recall repair free?
Yes. Under federal law, manufacturers must fix safety recalls at no charge for vehicles up to 15 years old from the date of sale to the first owner. Contact any authorised Pontiac dealer with your VIN and the NHTSA campaign number (for example 91V031000).
What is the difference between a recall and a complaint?
A recall is a safety campaign filed by the manufacturer or ordered by NHTSA, with a defined defect and remedy. A complaint is a report an owner sent to NHTSA; it is not verified, but patterns of complaints are what trigger NHTSA investigations and, eventually, recalls.
