  1. Conventional (parking brake)

NHTSA 91V055000 Reported 179,036 vehicles potentially affected GENERAL MOTORS CORP.

Parking brake adjuster fails to operate and do not work after brake pad wear.

Remedy: Replace nonfunctioning parking brake adjusters.

  2. Anchorage (seat belts)

NHTSA 82V089000 Reported 172,863 vehicles potentially affected GENERAL MOTORS CORP.

The involved vehicles do not conform to federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 210, "seat belt assembly anchorages". The non-compliance exists because the rear seat belt anchorages may pull through the underbody of the vehicle if enough force is applied.

Remedy: Upon inspection, dealer will install a rear seat belt anchorage reinforcement kit to ensure proper anchoring of seat belts without charge to owner.

  3. Tank assembly (fuel system)

NHTSA 82V076000 Reported 24,455 vehicles potentially affected GENERAL MOTORS CORP.

Fuel tank ventilator valve in the fuel system may produce a loud and persistent "whistle" during venting of the tank. If the fuel filler cap is removed while this condition exists and the tank is more than 3/4 full, gasoline may be forced out of the filler neck onto bystanders.

Remedy: Dealer will inspect and, if necessary, replace the fuel tank ventilator and pressure control valves without charge to owner.

Checking a specific 1982 Pontiac Firebird

How do I know if my 1982 Pontiac Firebird has an open recall?

Enter your 17-character VIN above. The VIN is on the driver's side dashboard (visible through the windshield), the driver's door jamb sticker, and your registration or insurance card. The check runs against NHTSA's live database and tells you which campaigns list your vehicle. 3 campaigns currently list the 1982 Pontiac Firebird; your car may already have been repaired under some of them.

Is the recall repair free?

Yes. Under federal law, manufacturers must fix safety recalls at no charge for vehicles up to 15 years old from the date of sale to the first owner. Contact any authorised Pontiac dealer with your VIN and the NHTSA campaign number (for example 82V076000).

What is the difference between a recall and a complaint?

A recall is a safety campaign filed by the manufacturer or ordered by NHTSA, with a defined defect and remedy. A complaint is a report an owner sent to NHTSA; it is not verified, but patterns of complaints are what trigger NHTSA investigations and, eventually, recalls.

Recall counts are safety campaigns that list this model year; whether a particular car was already repaired depends on its VIN. How this data is compiled.
