  1. Anchorage (seat belts)

NHTSA 95V173000 Reported 2,216,325 vehicles potentially affected GENERAL MOTORS CORP.

These vehicles were assembled with rear outboard safety belt anchorages that may not withstand the required load. This does not comply with FMVSS no.210, "seat belt assembly anchorages."

Remedy: Dealers will replace the existing anchor bolts with a new shoulder bolt and thread locking adhesive. Additionally, noise control patches will be applied at each anchorage.

  2. Arm (steering)

NHTSA 94V189000 Reported 206 vehicles potentially affected GENERAL MOTORS CORP.

The right hand spindle nut was not properly tightened during assembly. This can cause premature wheel bearing failure and over time, the spindle can fracture.

Remedy: Dealers will inspect the torque on the right hand front spindle nut. If the spindle nut is undertorqued the dealer will replace the right hand front wheel bearing assembly and the spindle nut will be replaced.

  3. Latch (latches/locks/linkages)

NHTSA 94V159000 Reported 139,542 vehicles potentially affected GENERAL MOTORS CORP.

Water intrusion can cause a short circuit in the power door lock assembly.

Remedy: Dealers will replace the power door lock relay and any corroded terminals. In addition, the new relay will be relocated to an area where water intrusion is less likely.

  4. Springs (vehicle speed control)

NHTSA 94V008000 Reported 49,047 vehicles potentially affected GENERAL MOTORS CORP.

In the event of a primary accelerator control spring failure, the secondary (back-up) accelerator control return spring will not return the throttle to the fully closed position, as required by FMVSS no. 124, "accelerator control system."

Remedy: Dealers will replace the secondary throttle return spring.

Checking a specific 1994 Oldsmobile Ciera

How do I know if my 1994 Oldsmobile Ciera has an open recall?

Enter your 17-character VIN above. The VIN is on the driver's side dashboard (visible through the windshield), the driver's door jamb sticker, and your registration or insurance card. The check runs against NHTSA's live database and tells you which campaigns list your vehicle. 4 campaigns currently list the 1994 Oldsmobile Ciera; your car may already have been repaired under some of them.

Is the recall repair free?

Yes. Under federal law, manufacturers must fix safety recalls at no charge for vehicles up to 15 years old from the date of sale to the first owner. Contact any authorised Oldsmobile dealer with your VIN and the NHTSA campaign number (for example 94V008000).

What is the difference between a recall and a complaint?

A recall is a safety campaign filed by the manufacturer or ordered by NHTSA, with a defined defect and remedy. A complaint is a report an owner sent to NHTSA; it is not verified, but patterns of complaints are what trigger NHTSA investigations and, eventually, recalls.

Recall counts are safety campaigns that list this model year; whether a particular car was already repaired depends on its VIN. How this data is compiled.
