3 safety recalls for the 1984 Mercedes-Benz L1113

Most recent first. Recall repairs are free at any authorised dealer. Click a recall for the full defect, consequence and remedy text.

  1. Hoses, lines/piping, and fittings (service brakes)

NHTSA 85V020000 Reported 4,000 vehicles potentially affected FREIGHTLINER CORP.

A steel tube that delivers air to the front axle air brake chamber can contact the front shock absorber. Consequence of defect: repeated contact can wear a hole in the tube, causing air pressure to be lost during brake application. This could result in impaired braking capability and an accident.

Remedy: Reroute steel tube and/or replace, as necessary.

  2. Service brakes, air

NHTSA 84V114000 Reported 405 vehicles potentially affected FREIGHTLINER CORP.

Some of the bolts attaching the brake assembly to the axle may fracture without warning. If one or more of these bolts fracture, it may result in rear brake assembly damage and brake ineffectiveness on the rear axle.

Remedy: The three long bolts in each brake assembly will be inspected for a code number, and bolts will be replaced at no charge to the owner.

  3. Chamber (service brakes)

NHTSA 84V081000 Reported 428 vehicles potentially affected FREIGHTLINER CORP.

Because the air brake chambers are located above the rear axle housing, the air hose, which fits on top of the chambers, could come in contact with the underside of the body.

Remedy: Air chambers will be repositioned in order to lower the fittings. In addition, axle stops will be installed (with the exception of vehicles with 5900 mm wheel base) in order to ensure minimum upward travel of the axle.

Checking a specific 1984 Mercedes-Benz L1113

How do I know if my 1984 Mercedes-Benz L1113 has an open recall?

Enter your 17-character VIN above. The VIN is on the driver's side dashboard (visible through the windshield), the driver's door jamb sticker, and your registration or insurance card. The check runs against NHTSA's live database and tells you which campaigns list your vehicle. 3 campaigns currently list the 1984 Mercedes-Benz L1113; your car may already have been repaired under some of them.

Is the recall repair free?

Yes. Under federal law, manufacturers must fix safety recalls at no charge for vehicles up to 15 years old from the date of sale to the first owner. Contact any authorised Mercedes-Benz dealer with your VIN and the NHTSA campaign number (for example 84V081000).

What is the difference between a recall and a complaint?

A recall is a safety campaign filed by the manufacturer or ordered by NHTSA, with a defined defect and remedy. A complaint is a report an owner sent to NHTSA; it is not verified, but patterns of complaints are what trigger NHTSA investigations and, eventually, recalls.

Recall counts are safety campaigns that list this model year; whether a particular car was already repaired depends on its VIN. How this data is compiled.
