  1. Seat belts

NHTSA 93V179000 Reported 52,102 vehicles potentially affected JAGUAR MOTORS, INC.

The normal lockup function of the automatic (passive) belt reel can cause the belt motor winch assembly to lockup such that the passive belt system will not deploy/function or gets stuck at various points along the track causing the kinking or breaking of its cable or detachment of the tongue.

Remedy: Jaguar will repair the passive belt system if this problem occurs or has occurred. Jaguar will notify owners of the existence of a lifetime warranty on components of the automatic (passive) belt system.

  2. Hoses, lines/piping, and fittings (service brakes)

NHTSA 90V023000 Reported 38,315 vehicles potentially affected JAGUAR ROVER TRIUMPH INC.

High pressure fluid supply hose could rupture causing loss of fluid of the brake power assist system.

Remedy: Install new power hydraulic hose of a different specification.

  3. Switch (exterior lighting)

NHTSA 90V024000 Reported 29,000 vehicles potentially affected JAGUAR ROVER TRIUMPH INC.

Brake accumulator switch which controls hydraulic fluid flow to and from the engine driven pump, could leak, causing loss of fluid in the power brake assist system. This leak is also in the vicinity of electrical wiring.

Checking a specific 1989 Jaguar Vanden Plas

How do I know if my 1989 Jaguar Vanden Plas has an open recall?

Enter your 17-character VIN above. The VIN is on the driver's side dashboard (visible through the windshield), the driver's door jamb sticker, and your registration or insurance card. The check runs against NHTSA's live database and tells you which campaigns list your vehicle. 3 campaigns currently list the 1989 Jaguar Vanden Plas; your car may already have been repaired under some of them.

Is the recall repair free?

Yes. Under federal law, manufacturers must fix safety recalls at no charge for vehicles up to 15 years old from the date of sale to the first owner. Contact any authorised Jaguar dealer with your VIN and the NHTSA campaign number (for example 90V023000).

What is the difference between a recall and a complaint?

A recall is a safety campaign filed by the manufacturer or ordered by NHTSA, with a defined defect and remedy. A complaint is a report an owner sent to NHTSA; it is not verified, but patterns of complaints are what trigger NHTSA investigations and, eventually, recalls.
