  1. Seats

NHTSA 86V117000 Reported 46 vehicles potentially affected GENERAL MOTORS CORP.

Three bolts which attach the sill that supports the base of the seat were omitted; therefore vehicles do not comply with FMVSS 210 and FMVSS 207. Consequence of defect: in the event of a crash, the floor plate could buckle along the inboard side causing the seat pedestal to be imbalanced, and increasing the likelihood of injury to the…

    Remedy: Install missing bolts.

  2. Fan (engine and engine cooling)

NHTSA 85V128000 Reported 383 vehicles potentially affected GENERAL MOTORS CORP.

The fan blade, when subjected to high stress levels, can fatigue and break apart at the hub while the engine is running. Consequence of defect: if breakage occurs while hood is open, a person working under the hood or near the truck could be struck by a blade part and be injured.

    Remedy: Replace engine fan.

  3. Filler pipe and cap (fuel system)

NHTSA 84V133000 Reported 11,305 vehicles potentially affected GENERAL MOTORS CORP.

Due to a manufacturing problem with the fuel tank filler pipe, the fuel cap may improperly seal the end of the filler pipe. This fails to conform to the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard 301, "fuel system integrity." in the event of a collision, an improperly sealed filler pipe could allow fuel spillage.

Remedy: The dealer will inspect and replace fuel caps on all affected vehicles without charge.

How do I know if my 1984 GMC P35 has an open recall?

Enter your 17-character VIN above. The VIN is on the driver's side dashboard (visible through the windshield), the driver's door jamb sticker, and your registration or insurance card. The check runs against NHTSA's live database and tells you which campaigns list your vehicle. 3 campaigns currently list the 1984 GMC P35; your car may already have been repaired under some of them.

Is the recall repair free?

Yes. Under federal law, manufacturers must fix safety recalls at no charge for vehicles up to 15 years old from the date of sale to the first owner. Contact any authorised GMC dealer with your VIN and the NHTSA campaign number (for example 84V133000).

What is the difference between a recall and a complaint?

A recall is a safety campaign filed by the manufacturer or ordered by NHTSA, with a defined defect and remedy. A complaint is a report an owner sent to NHTSA; it is not verified, but patterns of complaints are what trigger NHTSA investigations and, eventually, recalls.

Recall counts are safety campaigns that list this model year; whether a particular car was already repaired depends on its VIN. How this data is compiled.
