  1. Latch (latches/locks/linkages)

NHTSA 83V063000 Reported 610,000 vehicles potentially affected FORD MOTOR COMPANY

Door lock pillars could develop fatigue cracks from normal usage of door, at the point where door latch striker reinforcements are attached.

Remedy: Any damaged lock pillars will be repaired and reinforcements will be installed between the door latch striker and lock pillars.

  2. Air conditioner (equipment)

NHTSA 82V045000 Reported 113,000 vehicles potentially affected FORD MOTOR COMPANY

On the involved vehicles, a thermal limiter in the blower motor resistor circuit of the air conditioner/heater assembly may not function as intended. If the blower motor becomes jammed when the system is operating in the medium-low blower speed, the resistor coils can overheat causing melting and possible ignition.

Remedy: Dealer will replace the resistor assembly with an improved version without charge to owner.

  3. Vacuum (service brakes)

NHTSA 81V084000 Reported 4,338 vehicles potentially affected FORD MOTOR COMPANY

Some vehicles equipped with power brake boosters have front and rear shells that may have been improperly joined. Improperly joined booster shells may separate either partially or completely during brake application.

Remedy: All defective boosters will be replaced at no charge to owner.

  4. Filler pipe and cap (fuel system)

NHTSA 81V047000 Reported 5,200 vehicles potentially affected FORD MOTOR COMPANY

Certain vehicles may not meet applicable minimum fuel spillage requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 301, "fuel system integrity". During a 30 MPH rear impact test, fuel spillage limits were exceeded by vehicle.

Remedy: Revised fuel filler and vent pipe assemblies will be installed on affected vehicles, without charge.

Checking a specific 1982 Ford Exp

How do I know if my 1982 Ford Exp has an open recall?

Enter your 17-character VIN above. The VIN is on the driver's side dashboard (visible through the windshield), the driver's door jamb sticker, and your registration or insurance card. The check runs against NHTSA's live database and tells you which campaigns list your vehicle. 4 campaigns currently list the 1982 Ford Exp; your car may already have been repaired under some of them.

Is the recall repair free?

Yes. Under federal law, manufacturers must fix safety recalls at no charge for vehicles up to 15 years old from the date of sale to the first owner. Contact any authorised Ford dealer with your VIN and the NHTSA campaign number (for example 81V047000).

What is the difference between a recall and a complaint?

A recall is a safety campaign filed by the manufacturer or ordered by NHTSA, with a defined defect and remedy. A complaint is a report an owner sent to NHTSA; it is not verified, but patterns of complaints are what trigger NHTSA investigations and, eventually, recalls.

Recall counts are safety campaigns that list this model year; whether a particular car was already repaired depends on its VIN. How this data is compiled.
