  1. Hoses, lines/piping, and fittings (service brakes)

NHTSA 78V188000 Reported 1,400 vehicles potentially affected CHRYSLER CORPORATION

Due to improper material construction the hydro-boost fluid return hose may not be capable of withstanding the temperatures and/or pressures experienced with the hydro-boost system. Also, the hydro-boost fluid high pressure hose assembly may have been mislocated, allowing the assembly to contact the frame side rail. Abrasion resulting…

Remedy: The dealer will install a hydro-boost fluid return hose constructed form the proper material, positioning the hose assembly to ensure adequate clearance between it and the frame side rail.

  2. Hose, piping, and connections (steering)

NHTSA 78V141000 Reported 1,400 vehicles potentially affected CHRYSLER CORPORATION

Improper routing of the "hydroboost" hydraulic system high pressure hose assembly could allow a tubular section to contact the frame side rail. Abrasion from the contact could result, causing a leak in the hose assembly.

Remedy: The dealer will reroute "hydroboost" high pressure hose assemblies and any damaged hoses will be replaced.

  3. Tank assembly (fuel system)

NHTSA 78V036000 Reported 20,000 vehicles potentially affected CHRYSLER CORPORATION

Remedy: Dealer will inspect the fuel tank vent systems for blockage and correct, if necessary. Fuel tanks will be inspected for cracking of the front panel and replaced, if necessary.

  4. Steering wheel/handle bar (steering)

NHTSA 78V038000 Reported 9,000 vehicles potentially affected CHRYSLER CORPORATION

An intermediate steering shaft containing a mismatched pot coupling assembly may have been installed on the involved vehicles. This coupling may have an oversized serration diameter. An oversized serration could prevent the coupling from adequately tightening onto the gear or shaft splines.

Remedy: The dealer will inspect and, if necessary, install a replacement shaft coupling.

  5. Hoses, lines/piping, and fittings (fuel system)

NHTSA 77V212000 Reported 24,000 vehicles potentially affected CHRYSLER CORPORATION

The fuel tubes (fuel tank to pump) on the involved vehicles may be routed such that tube to underbody reinforcement flange interference may result during vehicle operation. Tube abrasion caused by such interference may result in fuel leakage.

Remedy: Dealer will reroute the fuel tube or install a new fuel tube, if damaged, without charge to owner.

How do I know if my 1978 Dodge D100 has an open recall?

Enter your 17-character VIN above. The VIN is on the driver's side dashboard (visible through the windshield), the driver's door jamb sticker, and your registration or insurance card. The check runs against NHTSA's live database and tells you which campaigns list your vehicle. 5 campaigns currently list the 1978 Dodge D100; your car may already have been repaired under some of them.

Is the recall repair free?

Yes. Under federal law, manufacturers must fix safety recalls at no charge for vehicles up to 15 years old from the date of sale to the first owner. Contact any authorised Dodge dealer with your VIN and the NHTSA campaign number (for example 77V212000).

What is the difference between a recall and a complaint?

A recall is a safety campaign filed by the manufacturer or ordered by NHTSA, with a defined defect and remedy. A complaint is a report an owner sent to NHTSA; it is not verified, but patterns of complaints are what trigger NHTSA investigations and, eventually, recalls.
