  1. Frame and members (structure)

NHTSA 80V027000 Reported 1,000,000 vehicles potentially affected CHRYSLER CORPORATION

The front rail extension may experience fatigue cracking near the area where the power steering gear attaches to the frame. If the crack progresses through most or all of the rail section, steering system free play accompanied by metallic rattle noise will be experienced.

Remedy: Affected vehicles will be weld repaired and a reinforcement rod will be installed over the cracked area.

  2. Hoses, lines/piping, and fittings (service brakes)

NHTSA 79V105000 Reported 50,000 vehicles potentially affected CHRYSLER CORPORATION

The front brake hose routing may allow interference between the hoses and the tire and wheel assemblies during extreme turning angles.

Remedy: Dealer will replace both left and right front brake hoses and install a new brake hose support bracket to eliminate contact with tire/wheel.

  3. Anchorage (seat belts)

NHTSA 78V082000 Reported 100 vehicles potentially affected CHRYSLER CORPORATION

The involved vehicles do not conform to federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 209, "seat belt assemblies", in that they do not have the capability of fitting certain adult passengers when the seat is in the full forward position.

Remedy: Dealer will replace the front passenger unibelt assembly with an assembly having a longer belt webbing.

Checking a specific 1978 Dodge B100

How do I know if my 1978 Dodge B100 has an open recall?

Enter your 17-character VIN above. The VIN is on the driver's side dashboard (visible through the windshield), the driver's door jamb sticker, and your registration or insurance card. The check runs against NHTSA's live database and tells you which campaigns list your vehicle. 3 campaigns currently list the 1978 Dodge B100; your car may already have been repaired under some of them.

Is the recall repair free?

Yes. Under federal law, manufacturers must fix safety recalls at no charge for vehicles up to 15 years old from the date of sale to the first owner. Contact any authorised Dodge dealer with your VIN and the NHTSA campaign number (for example 78V082000).

What is the difference between a recall and a complaint?

A recall is a safety campaign filed by the manufacturer or ordered by NHTSA, with a defined defect and remedy. A complaint is a report an owner sent to NHTSA; it is not verified, but patterns of complaints are what trigger NHTSA investigations and, eventually, recalls.

Recall counts are safety campaigns that list this model year; whether a particular car was already repaired depends on its VIN. How this data is compiled.
