  1. Suspension: lower ball joint

NHTSA 96V019000 Reported 308 vehicles potentially affected GENERAL MOTORS CORP.

Defective lower control arm ball joint attachment nuts were not properly torqued and can loosen.

Remedy: Dealers will inspect both front lower control arm ball joint attachment nuts for proper torque. If the ball joint has loosened from the knuckle, both the ball joint and the knuckle will be replaced.

  2. Springs (vehicle speed control)

NHTSA 95V082000 Reported 87,039 vehicles potentially affected GENERAL MOTORS CORP.

These vehicles fail to conform to FMVSS no. 124, "accelerator control systems." at low temperatures, excessive friction can occur in the accelerator pedal assembly.

Remedy: Dealers will replace the accelerator pedal assembly.

  3. Mounting (fuel system)

NHTSA 94V210000 Reported 130,581 vehicles potentially affected GENERAL MOTORS CORP.

The fuel tank attachment strap fasteners were not properly tightened. The fasteners can completely detach, eventually allowing the fuel tank to sag and the bottom of the tank to strike the roadway.

Remedy: Dealers will retighten the fuel tank strap fasteners.

  4. Lugs/nuts/bolts/studs (wheels)

NHTSA 94V076000 Reported 139 vehicles potentially affected GENERAL MOTORS CORP.

Paint on the wheel mounting surfaces can act as a shim between the wheel and the rotor/drum. As the vehicle is driven, the wheel imbeds into the paint, loosening the lug nut and causing a loss of clamp load.

Remedy: Dealers will clean the wheel mounting surfaces for all four wheels. Also, the wheel studs will be inspected for damage and will be replaced as necessary.

  5. Hoses/lines/piping/fittings (engine and engine cooling)

NHTSA 94V049000 Reported 8,475 vehicles potentially affected GENERAL MOTORS CORP.

The engine oil cooler inlet hose may have been installed too close to the steering gear causing chafing. The chafing can eventually wear through the hose's protective sleeve resulting in engine oil leaking onto the engine.

Checking a specific 1994 Cadillac Fleetwood

How do I know if my 1994 Cadillac Fleetwood has an open recall?

Enter your 17-character VIN above. The VIN is on the driver's side dashboard (visible through the windshield), the driver's door jamb sticker, and your registration or insurance card. The check runs against NHTSA's live database and tells you which campaigns list your vehicle. 5 campaigns currently list the 1994 Cadillac Fleetwood; your car may already have been repaired under some of them.

Is the recall repair free?

Yes. Under federal law, manufacturers must fix safety recalls at no charge for vehicles up to 15 years old from the date of sale to the first owner. Contact any authorised Cadillac dealer with your VIN and the NHTSA campaign number (for example 94V049000).

What is the difference between a recall and a complaint?

A recall is a safety campaign filed by the manufacturer or ordered by NHTSA, with a defined defect and remedy. A complaint is a report an owner sent to NHTSA; it is not verified, but patterns of complaints are what trigger NHTSA investigations and, eventually, recalls.

Recall counts are safety campaigns that list this model year; whether a particular car was already repaired depends on its VIN. How this data is compiled.
