  1. Windshield wiper/washer (visibility)

NHTSA 79V008000 Reported 12,333 vehicles potentially affected WHITE MOTOR CORPORATION

The windshield wiper may over-travel its designed sweep angle during its initial stroke with the possibility of temporary wiper immobilization.

The involved vehicles do not conform to federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 121, "air brake systems", in that some dual compartment air reservoirs were installed without a drain valve in both compartments. The omission of the drain valve could cause: 1) the tank to fill up with water due to condensation, 2) reduced air volume, 3)…

Remedy: Dealer will inspect and, if necessary, install a drain valve at no cost to owner.

  5. Cables (electrical system)

NHTSA 78V131000 Reported 278 vehicles potentially affected WHITE MOTOR CORPORATION

The ground wire from the battery ground on the engine to the frame rail was omitted. This constitutes a non-compliance to federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 108, "lamps, reflective devices and associated equipment" and no. 121, "air brakes". An intermittent loss of electrical ground and subsequent dimming of the lighting system…

Remedy: The dealer will install two ground cables free of charge on all affected vehicles.

Checking a specific 1976 White Truck RX2

How do I know if my 1976 White Truck RX2 has an open recall?

Enter your 17-character VIN above. The VIN is on the driver's side dashboard (visible through the windshield), the driver's door jamb sticker, and your registration or insurance card. The check runs against NHTSA's live database and tells you which campaigns list your vehicle. 6 campaigns currently list the 1976 White Truck RX2; your car may already have been repaired under some of them.

Is the recall repair free?

Yes. Under federal law, manufacturers must fix safety recalls at no charge for vehicles up to 15 years old from the date of sale to the first owner. Contact any authorised White Truck dealer with your VIN and the NHTSA campaign number (for example 77V206000).

What is the difference between a recall and a complaint?

A recall is a safety campaign filed by the manufacturer or ordered by NHTSA, with a defined defect and remedy. A complaint is a report an owner sent to NHTSA; it is not verified, but patterns of complaints are what trigger NHTSA investigations and, eventually, recalls.

Recall counts are safety campaigns that list this model year; whether a particular car was already repaired depends on its VIN. How this data is compiled.
