  1. Vehicle speed control

NHTSA 79V206000 Reported 61,739 vehicles potentially affected SAAB CARS USA, INC.

Under certain conditions such as ambient humidity and vehicle pre-conditioning by repeated cold start, and short trip driving cycles in combination with sub-zero temperatures, there exists the possibility for ice to form in the throttle housing and temporarily impede full closure of the throttle plate when the accelerator is released.…

Remedy: The dealer will modify the engine intake system to further improve preheating of incoming air in cold weather. This will be done free of charge.

  2. Hoses, lines/piping, and fittings (fuel system)

NHTSA 78V001000 Reported 18,088 vehicles potentially affected SAAB CARS USA, INC.

The fuel line may have been installed in a way such that the axle could contact the line and eventually cause the line to rupture, allowing fuel to leak to the ground.

Remedy: The dealer will remove the hose between the return check valve and fuel tank and install a longer hose of a preformed shape.

  3. Pedals and linkages (service brakes)

NHTSA 76V208000 Reported 22,595 vehicles potentially affected SAAB CARS USA, INC.
  4. Structure

NHTSA 76V161000 Reported 7,139 vehicles potentially affected SAAB CARS USA, INC.
  5. Vehicle speed control

NHTSA 76V011000 Reported 17,898 vehicles potentially affected SAAB CARS USA, INC.
  6. Fuel injection system (fuel system)

NHTSA 75V215000 Reported 1,200 vehicles potentially affected SAAB CARS USA, INC.

Checking a specific 1976 Saab 99

How do I know if my 1976 Saab 99 has an open recall?

Enter your 17-character VIN above. The VIN is on the driver's side dashboard (visible through the windshield), the driver's door jamb sticker, and your registration or insurance card. The check runs against NHTSA's live database and tells you which campaigns list your vehicle. 6 campaigns currently list the 1976 Saab 99; your car may already have been repaired under some of them.

Is the recall repair free?

Yes. Under federal law, manufacturers must fix safety recalls at no charge for vehicles up to 15 years old from the date of sale to the first owner. Contact any authorised Saab dealer with your VIN and the NHTSA campaign number (for example 75V215000).

What is the difference between a recall and a complaint?

A recall is a safety campaign filed by the manufacturer or ordered by NHTSA, with a defined defect and remedy. A complaint is a report an owner sent to NHTSA; it is not verified, but patterns of complaints are what trigger NHTSA investigations and, eventually, recalls.

Recall counts are safety campaigns that list this model year; whether a particular car was already repaired depends on its VIN. How this data is compiled.
