NHTSA Recall 08V413000: Fan (engine and engine cooling)

Defect
Elgin is recalling 49 my 2007-2008 whirlwind street sweepers with tier iii john deere auxiliary engines. The auxiliary engine radiator fan is mounted to the crankshaft of the engine. Under heavy operating conditions and high auxiliary engine speeds, the radiator fan blades can separate from the fan hub. If this condition occurs, fan blades or debris from the failed fan blades can leave the fan housing on the passenger side of the sweeper.
Safety risk
If the radiator fan blades separate, persons who service the sweeper or wo are near the street sweeper could be injured and/or property damage could occur.
Remedy
Dealers will install a new radiator fan that has thicker fan blades and a non-segmented fan base will be installed free of charge. The recall began on august 25, 2008. Owners may contact elgin at 1-877-342-5374.
