Suspension: control arm
On the involved vehicles, the bolts used to attach the front suspension ball joints to the control arms may fail due to a bolt section crack condition. The ball joint may separate from the arm possibly affecting vehicle directional control.
Remedy: Dealer will replace the ball joint to control arm attaching bolts at no cost to owner.
-
Hoses, lines/piping, and fittings (fuel system)
The engine compartment fuel line hoses installed on certain vehicles were fabricated from a defective rubber compound. When subjected to continuous high underhood temperatures, these hoses may become brittle and crack.
Remedy: The dealer will replace fuel supply and vapor return hoses with a type constructed of high temperature-resistant material.
-
Latch (latches/locks/linkages)
The hood secondary latch on the involved vehicles may be subject to binding due to variations in the latch and its mounting base assembly. A problem could occur if the primary latch became inoperative or was not properly engaged.
Remedy: The dealer will inspect the secondary hood latch system and, if necessary, adjust it at no cost to owner.

Checking a specific 1980 Plymouth Horizon
How do I know if my 1980 Plymouth Horizon has an open recall?
Enter your 17-character VIN above. The VIN is on the driver's side dashboard (visible through the windshield), the driver's door jamb sticker, and your registration or insurance card. The check runs against NHTSA's live database and tells you which campaigns list your vehicle. 3 campaigns currently list the 1980 Plymouth Horizon; your car may already have been repaired under some of them.
Is the recall repair free?
Yes. Under federal law, manufacturers must fix safety recalls at no charge for vehicles up to 15 years old from the date of sale to the first owner. Contact any authorised Plymouth dealer with your VIN and the NHTSA campaign number (for example 80V138000).
What is the difference between a recall and a complaint?
A recall is a safety campaign filed by the manufacturer or ordered by NHTSA, with a defined defect and remedy. A complaint is a report an owner sent to NHTSA; it is not verified, but patterns of complaints are what trigger NHTSA investigations and, eventually, recalls.
