  1. Structure

NHTSA 91V089000 Reported 1,585 vehicles potentially affected OSHKOSH TRUCK CORPORATION

Step tread was designed with an upturned edge. Also, incorrect bolts were used to attach the steps to vehicle; incorrect bolts may fatigue and break allowing the steps to separate from cab.

Remedy: Replace incorrectly designed steps, replace incorrect bolts.

  2. Steering

NHTSA 85V112000 Reported 114 vehicles potentially affected OSHKOSH TRUCK CORPORATION

Certain front drive steering assemblies may contain a faulty weld at the axle ball flange and housing connection. Consequence of defect: weld failure could result in complete separation of the wheel, tire, brake assembly, and steering knuckle, causing loss of control and potential vehicle crash.

Remedy: Repair fault in weld, reweld, and install a gusset for added support.

  3. Windshield (visibility)

NHTSA 80V012000 Reported 417 vehicles potentially affected OSHKOSH TRUCK CORPORATION

In some vehicles, cracks may develop in the sheet metal around the windshield opening. Continued vehicle operation could result in progressive damage to the cab.

Remedy: The dealer will install a window retention kit free of charge.

Checking a specific 1977 Oshkosh B Series

How do I know if my 1977 Oshkosh B Series has an open recall?

Enter your 17-character VIN above. The VIN is on the driver's side dashboard (visible through the windshield), the driver's door jamb sticker, and your registration or insurance card. The check runs against NHTSA's live database and tells you which campaigns list your vehicle. 3 campaigns currently list the 1977 Oshkosh B Series; your car may already have been repaired under some of them.

Is the recall repair free?

Yes. Under federal law, manufacturers must fix safety recalls at no charge for vehicles up to 15 years old from the date of sale to the first owner. Contact any authorised Oshkosh dealer with your VIN and the NHTSA campaign number (for example 80V012000).

What is the difference between a recall and a complaint?

A recall is a safety campaign filed by the manufacturer or ordered by NHTSA, with a defined defect and remedy. A complaint is a report an owner sent to NHTSA; it is not verified, but patterns of complaints are what trigger NHTSA investigations and, eventually, recalls.

Recall counts are safety campaigns that list this model year; whether a particular car was already repaired depends on its VIN. How this data is compiled.
