  1. Filler pipe and cap (fuel system)

NHTSA 00V032000 Reported 22,000 vehicles potentially affected MAZDA NORTH AMERICAN OPERATIONS

Vehicle description: passenger vehicles. The non-return valve installed at the lower end of the fuel filler pipe can stick due to insufficient clearance between the valve case and the valve shutter combined with the material properties of the fuel hose between the filler pipe and the fuel tank.

Remedy: Dealers will replace the non-return valve with a modified return valve.

  2. Electrical system: front underhood

NHTSA 98V066000 Reported 8,000 vehicles potentially affected MAZDA (NORTH AMERICA),INC

Vehicle description: passenger vehicles equipped with 1.8 liter engines. As a result of the length and routing of the injector harness, it can contact the manifold at the egr pipe. If the harness is damaged, a short circuit can occur, blowing the fuse for the fuel injector.

Remedy: Dealers will reroute the injector harness and replace the harness if it has been damaged.

Checking a specific 1999 Mazda Miata

How do I know if my 1999 Mazda Miata has an open recall?

Enter your 17-character VIN above. The VIN is on the driver's side dashboard (visible through the windshield), the driver's door jamb sticker, and your registration or insurance card. The check runs against NHTSA's live database and tells you which campaigns list your vehicle. 2 campaigns currently list the 1999 Mazda Miata; your car may already have been repaired under some of them.

Is the recall repair free?

Yes. Under federal law, manufacturers must fix safety recalls at no charge for vehicles up to 15 years old from the date of sale to the first owner. Contact any authorised Mazda dealer with your VIN and the NHTSA campaign number (for example 00V032000).

What is the difference between a recall and a complaint?

A recall is a safety campaign filed by the manufacturer or ordered by NHTSA, with a defined defect and remedy. A complaint is a report an owner sent to NHTSA; it is not verified, but patterns of complaints are what trigger NHTSA investigations and, eventually, recalls.

Recall counts are safety campaigns that list this model year; whether a particular car was already repaired depends on its VIN. How this data is compiled.
