  1. Vehicle speed control

NHTSA 85V136000 Reported 24,270 vehicles potentially affected MAZDA (NORTH AMERICA),INC

Fitting of the ball joint between the cruise control lever and the connecting rod may be tight causing binding which affects the throttle return action. Consequence of defect: binding of the cruise control connecting rod could result in uncontrolled acceleration which could cause an accident.

Remedy: Replace the connecting rod with one designed especially for this model and year.

  2. Steering

NHTSA 85V108000 Reported 136,526 vehicles potentially affected MAZDA (NORTH AMERICA),INC

In certain high salt areas, the idler arm is exposed to road salt which causes the dust seal to deteriorate resulting in idler arm pin corrosion. This causes the pin to freeze and break. Consequence of defect: a broken idler arm pin could result in loss of steering control and may cause an accident.

Remedy: Replace pin with one of improved corrosion resistant quality.

  3. Tail lights (exterior lighting)

NHTSA 84V088000 Reported 87,468 vehicles potentially affected MAZDA (NORTH AMERICA),INC

Rear lamps do not meet the maximum intensity requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard 108, "lamps, reflective devices and associated equipment". The lamps produce too much light.

Remedy: Light bulbs will be replaced with the correct type and the label that specifies the replacement part will be changed.

  4. Anchorage (seat belts)

NHTSA 83V052000 Reported 232,373 vehicles potentially affected MAZDA (NORTH AMERICA),INC

Anchorage bolt may have been improperly reinstalled after vehicle repair. The bolt could loosen during normal vehicle operation.

Checking a specific 1982 Mazda GLC

How do I know if my 1982 Mazda GLC has an open recall?

Enter your 17-character VIN above. The VIN is on the driver's side dashboard (visible through the windshield), the driver's door jamb sticker, and your registration or insurance card. The check runs against NHTSA's live database and tells you which campaigns list your vehicle. 4 campaigns currently list the 1982 Mazda GLC; your car may already have been repaired under some of them.

Is the recall repair free?

Yes. Under federal law, manufacturers must fix safety recalls at no charge for vehicles up to 15 years old from the date of sale to the first owner. Contact any authorised Mazda dealer with your VIN and the NHTSA campaign number (for example 83V052000).

What is the difference between a recall and a complaint?

A recall is a safety campaign filed by the manufacturer or ordered by NHTSA, with a defined defect and remedy. A complaint is a report an owner sent to NHTSA; it is not verified, but patterns of complaints are what trigger NHTSA investigations and, eventually, recalls.
