  1. Service brakes, air: control unit/module

NHTSA 78V068000 Reported 9,700 vehicles potentially affected MACK TRUCKS, INCORPORATED

An axle "no brake" condition could result from an eaton controller internal electrical malfunction. This condition may cause the anti-wheel lock valve solenoid to be continuously energized and prevent the brakes from being applied on one of the axles. As a result, the anti-wheel lock warning lamp is not activated.

Remedy: The dealer will inspect and, if necessary, replace the anti-wheel lock controller without charge to owner.

  2. Fan (engine and engine cooling)

NHTSA 77V173000 Reported 48,000 vehicles potentially affected MACK TRUCKS, INCORPORATED

The flex blade fans on the involved vehicles may develop cracks in the laminated stiffener as a result of fatigue during operation. If such a condition exists and the cracks go undetected, continued operation could cause pieces of the stiffener to break off.

Remedy: Dealer will replace the original fan with a steel fixed blade fan, free of charge.

  3. Gear box (other than rack and pinion) (steering)

NHTSA 77V011000 Reported 2,200 vehicles potentially affected MACK TRUCKS, INCORPORATED

The lower steering shaft yoke clamp bolts on the involved vehicles may not have been sufficiently tightened. Should these bolts lossen and come off, the lower steering shaft could separate from the steering gear.

Remedy: The dealer will secure the clamp bolt and make the necessary modifications on the lower steering shaft, free of charge.

  4. Chamber (service brakes)

NHTSA 76V083000 Reported 404 vehicles potentially affected MACK TRUCKS, INCORPORATED
  5. Steering wheel/handle bar (steering)

NHTSA 75V140000 Reported 402 vehicles potentially affected MACK TRUCKS, INCORPORATED
  6. Check valve (service brakes)

NHTSA 75V141000 Reported 935 vehicles potentially affected MACK TRUCKS, INCORPORATED
  7. Drum (service brakes)

NHTSA 75V060000 Reported 600 vehicles potentially affected MACK TRUCKS, INCORPORATED

Checking a specific 1974 Mack Wl

How do I know if my 1974 Mack Wl has an open recall?

Enter your 17-character VIN above. The VIN is on the driver's side dashboard (visible through the windshield), the driver's door jamb sticker, and your registration or insurance card. The check runs against NHTSA's live database and tells you which campaigns list your vehicle. 7 campaigns currently list the 1974 Mack Wl; your car may already have been repaired under some of them.

Is the recall repair free?

Yes. Under federal law, manufacturers must fix safety recalls at no charge for vehicles up to 15 years old from the date of sale to the first owner. Contact any authorised Mack dealer with your VIN and the NHTSA campaign number (for example 75V060000).

What is the difference between a recall and a complaint?

A recall is a safety campaign filed by the manufacturer or ordered by NHTSA, with a defined defect and remedy. A complaint is a report an owner sent to NHTSA; it is not verified, but patterns of complaints are what trigger NHTSA investigations and, eventually, recalls.

Recall counts are safety campaigns that list this model year; whether a particular car was already repaired depends on its VIN. How this data is compiled.
