  1. Headlights (exterior lighting)

NHTSA 82V054000 Reported 5,700 vehicles potentially affected MACK TRUCKS, INCORPORATED

The circuit wiring on these vehicles is arranged so that a short circuit in the rear taillights will also result in loss of power to the headlamps. For safety reasons the lighting system wiring should be independent.

Remedy: Vehicles will have an automatic reset circuit breaker installed to ensure continued headlamp illumination in the event of a short in other lighting systems.

  2. Fan/motor (visibility)

NHTSA 81V157000 Reported 4,920 vehicles potentially affected MACK TRUCKS, INCORPORATED

When the ignition key is in the "on" position and the heater is operating at the "low" or "medium" setting, the heater switch wiring will overload in the event the heater motor seizes.

Remedy: A speed variation resistance unit and an electric motor moisture protection cap will be installed without charge.

  3. Springs (vehicle speed control)

NHTSA 80V157000 Reported 1,992 vehicles potentially affected MACK TRUCKS, INCORPORATED

Chafing may occur between the throttle return springs and their mounting brackets and can cause the hook end of the spring to wear prematurely and eventually break.

Remedy: Dealer will install a set of redesigned throttle return springs and mounting brackets for improved service life at no charge to owner.

Checking a specific 1979 Mack MS200P

How do I know if my 1979 Mack MS200P has an open recall?

Enter your 17-character VIN above. The VIN is on the driver's side dashboard (visible through the windshield), the driver's door jamb sticker, and your registration or insurance card. The check runs against NHTSA's live database and tells you which campaigns list your vehicle. 3 campaigns currently list the 1979 Mack MS200P; your car may already have been repaired under some of them.

Is the recall repair free?

Yes. Under federal law, manufacturers must fix safety recalls at no charge for vehicles up to 15 years old from the date of sale to the first owner. Contact any authorised Mack dealer with your VIN and the NHTSA campaign number (for example 80V157000).

What is the difference between a recall and a complaint?

A recall is a safety campaign filed by the manufacturer or ordered by NHTSA, with a defined defect and remedy. A complaint is a report an owner sent to NHTSA; it is not verified, but patterns of complaints are what trigger NHTSA investigations and, eventually, recalls.

Recall counts are safety campaigns that list this model year; whether a particular car was already repaired depends on its VIN. How this data is compiled.
