-
Leaf spring assembly (suspension)
Spring seat can deform, which causes a decrease in the clamping force in the suspension assembly. Loss of clamping force may bring about axle misalignment or axle housing failure.
Remedy: The axle housing will be inspected and replaced, if necessary. The spring seats will also be replaced.
-
Hand control/valve (service brakes)
The retaining pin for the brake control knob has been misaligned (off the center line of the valve plunger hole). This causes the knob to be overstressed at the retaining pin hole area causing it to separate from the valve.
Remedy: The holes will be retooled to provide correct alignment and plastic knobs will be replaced by knobs of stronger material having metal reinforcements.
-
Body (structure)
The right hand front canopy cab mounting bracket interferes with the right hand brake chamber on the steering axle when in a certain degree turn and severe bumping is present.
Remedy: The front canopy cab mounting bracket will be modified to allow for clearance of the right hand front brake chamber, without charge to owner.
-
Air (parking brake)
On certain vehicles, the knob that operates the tractor park valve may break off, rendering the valve inoperable.
Remedy: Defective knobs will be replaced with an improved type, without charge to owner.

Checking a specific 1980 Mack Mc Series
How do I know if my 1980 Mack Mc Series has an open recall?
Enter your 17-character VIN above. The VIN is on the driver's side dashboard (visible through the windshield), the driver's door jamb sticker, and your registration or insurance card. The check runs against NHTSA's live database and tells you which campaigns list your vehicle. 4 campaigns currently list the 1980 Mack Mc Series; your car may already have been repaired under some of them.
Is the recall repair free?
Yes. Under federal law, manufacturers must fix safety recalls at no charge for vehicles up to 15 years old from the date of sale to the first owner. Contact any authorised Mack dealer with your VIN and the NHTSA campaign number (for example 80V052000).
What is the difference between a recall and a complaint?
A recall is a safety campaign filed by the manufacturer or ordered by NHTSA, with a defined defect and remedy. A complaint is a report an owner sent to NHTSA; it is not verified, but patterns of complaints are what trigger NHTSA investigations and, eventually, recalls.
