All Jaguar Xjs recalls (16)

Every NHTSA safety campaign that lists a Jaguar Xjs, most recent first, with the model years each one covers.

  1. Seat belts

NHTSA 93V179000 Reported 52,102 vehicles potentially affected JAGUAR MOTORS, INC.

The normal lockup function of the automatic (passive) belt reel can cause the belt motor winch assembly to lockup such that the passive belt system will not deploy/function or gets stuck at various points along the track causing the kinking or breaking of its cable or detachment of the tongue.

Remedy: Jaguar will repair the passive belt system if this problem occurs or has occurred. Jaguar will notify owners of the existence of a lifetime warranty on components of the automatic (passive) belt system.

    Model years: 1987, 1988, 1989

  2. Ignition (electrical system)

NHTSA 92V009000 Reported 11,000 vehicles potentially affected JAGUAR CARS

The high tension lead from the ignition coil can move from the production location closer to the #4a fuel injector hose. This could lead to the outer and inner injector hoses cracking or splitting from ozone deterioration.

Remedy: Replace the high tension leads with shorter high tension leads. Replace both the fuel injector and the #4a fuel injector hose as necessary.

    Model years: 1989, 1990, 1991

  3. Electrical system: front underhood

NHTSA 91V155000 Reported 700 vehicles potentially affected JAGUAR ROVER TRIUMPH INC.

The engine harness may come in contact with the air conditioning expansion valve protection plate, causing chafing of the harness.

Remedy: Reposition the air conditioning expansion valve protection plate to preclude possibility of contact with the electrical harness.

    Model years: 1992

  4. Tank assembly (fuel system)

NHTSA 90V123000 Reported 35,000 vehicles potentially affected JAGUAR ROVER TRIUMPH INC.

Excessive fuel vapor pressure can occur that, after prolonged cycling, could weaken the fuel tank structure.

Remedy: Install a revised fuel purge system which eliminates excessive vapor pressure build-up.

    Model years: 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990

  5. Vehicle speed control

NHTSA 90V035000 Reported 32,749 vehicles potentially affected JAGUAR ROVER TRIUMPH INC.

Electronically controlled valves in the cruise control actuator may not function properly due to dirt entering the valves.

Remedy: Replace cruise control actuator and install additional vacuum dump valve.

    Model years: 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990

  6. Emission control (engine and engine cooling)

NHTSA 89V168000 Reported 1,994 vehicles potentially affected HESS AND EISENHARDT CO.

Excessive fuel vapor pressure can occur.

Remedy: Install revised purge system components.

    Model years: 1986, 1987, 1988

  7. Tank assembly (fuel system)

NHTSA 87V142000 Reported 133 vehicles potentially affected HESS AND EISENHARDT CO.

Seals of lower fuel tank gauge could fail causing gas to leak into lower fuel tank cavity and possibly into passenger compartment.

Remedy: Replace lower fuel tank assembly to upgrade fuel system to current specifications.

    Model years: 1987

  8. Electrical system: rear compartment/trunk

NHTSA 87V025000 Reported 23 vehicles potentially affected HESS AND EISENHARDT CO.

Electrical wiring harness may have been incorrectly installed and could cause a short circuit.

Remedy: Reroute harness; if chafed or damaged condition will be corrected.

    Model years: 1986, 1987

  9. Fuel rail (fuel system)

NHTSA 85V087000 Reported 10,000 vehicles potentially affected JAGUAR CARS

Possible fuel leakage from the engine fuel injection system, particularly in the area of the hose/clip fittings. Consequence of defect: the presence of an ignition source, with fuel leakage, could result in an engine compartment fire or the destruction of ignition distributor cap.

Remedy: A new fuel delivery system designed to eliminate fuel hose clips will be installed.

    Model years: 1980, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985

  10. Fuel rail (fuel system)

NHTSA 83V135000 Reported 3,500 vehicles potentially affected JAGUAR CARS

Fuel leakage may develop at the two main fuel rail connections. Deterioration at these two connections has been traced to a combination of misalignment of the two rail halves and the effect of temperature changes.

Remedy: Dealer will replace the current two piece fuel rail with a new part kit of single piece design.

    Model years: 1980, 1982, 1983

  11. Fuel pump (fuel system)

NHTSA 82V022000 Reported 3,718 vehicles potentially affected JAGUAR CARS

Certain vehicles may be fitted with an unauthorized fuel pump electrical inertia switch. This switch has a tin coating added to the contacts that create the potential for a high electrical resistance. This could cause overheating and possible distortion of the plastic mounting around the fixed contact. This could result in inability to…

Remedy: Dealer will inspect and, if necessary, replace the inertia switch at no cost to owner.

    Model years: 1982

  12. Fuel rail (fuel system)

NHTSA 81V134000 Reported 4,630 vehicles potentially affected JAGUAR CARS

Certain vehicles could be subject to a fuel leakage in the engine compartment due to the possibility of deterioration in the integrity of the high pressure fuel hose connections.

Remedy: All affected hoses and attachment clips will be replaced at no charge to owner.

    Model years: 1980, 1981, 1982

  13. Hoses, lines/piping, and fittings (fuel system)

NHTSA 78V063000 Reported 2,200 vehicles potentially affected JAGUAR CARS

Due to overstress, the hose joints of the right overaxle fuel pipe and left overaxle pressure pipes may break allowing fuel leakage.

Remedy: The dealer will reroute the piping to eliminate the overstressed condition.

    Model years: 1976, 1977

  14. Hoses, lines/piping, and fittings (fuel system)

NHTSA 78V060000 Reported 7,000 vehicles potentially affected JAGUAR CARS

The air pipe and fuel line pipe may contact each other and result in chafing of the fuel rail.

Remedy: The dealer will reroute air or fuel line to preclude contact, without charge to owner.

    Model years: 1976, 1977, 1978

  15. Lamp (service brakes)
