  1. Exterior lighting

NHTSA 95V152000 Reported 83,247 vehicles potentially affected GENERAL MOTORS CORP.

Incorrect clear front side marker bulbs were installed rather than amber bulbs. This does not conform to the requirements of FMVSS no. 108, "lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment."

Remedy: Dealers will replace the clear bulbs with the correct amber bulbs.

  2. Automatic transmission (power train)

NHTSA 91V214000 Reported 10,141 vehicles potentially affected GENERAL MOTORS CORP.

The reverse servo apply pin may bind in the case which could cause reverse band distress (loss or slipping of reverse), reverse band drag in drive range (poor performance -- poor power), or the transmission to remain in reverse while the shift indicator shows neutral gear position.

Remedy: Replace the transaxle where required.

Checking a specific 1992 Buick Regal

How do I know if my 1992 Buick Regal has an open recall?

Enter your 17-character VIN above. The VIN is on the driver's side dashboard (visible through the windshield), the driver's door jamb sticker, and your registration or insurance card. The check runs against NHTSA's live database and tells you which campaigns list your vehicle. 2 campaigns currently list the 1992 Buick Regal; your car may already have been repaired under some of them.

Is the recall repair free?

Yes. Under federal law, manufacturers must fix safety recalls at no charge for vehicles up to 15 years old from the date of sale to the first owner. Contact any authorised Buick dealer with your VIN and the NHTSA campaign number (for example 91V214000).

What is the difference between a recall and a complaint?

A recall is a safety campaign filed by the manufacturer or ordered by NHTSA, with a defined defect and remedy. A complaint is a report an owner sent to NHTSA; it is not verified, but patterns of complaints are what trigger NHTSA investigations and, eventually, recalls.
