  1. Coil springs (suspension)

NHTSA 97V140000 Reported 29,000 vehicles potentially affected BAYERISCHE MOTOREN WERKE

Vehicle description: passenger vehicles. Road grit and gravel associated with winter road conditions can penetrate the rubber of the lower front spring mounts and accumulate in the mounts causing notches or pits to develop. These notches can develop cracks resulting in breakage of a bottom coil of the spring.

Remedy: Dealers will replace both front springs and lower spring mounts.

NHTSA 95V238000 Reported 18,000 vehicles potentially affected BAYERISCHE MOTOREN WERKE

Fuel seepage can occur between a hose and the metal fuel line on either end of the hose resulting in fuel odor.

Remedy: Dealers will replace the two fuel hoses, four metal fuel lines and associated clamps.

  3. Suspension: rear

NHTSA 95V192000 Reported 3,000 vehicles potentially affected BAYERISCHE MOTOREN WERKE

The lower suspension arm mounting eye on the right side rear axle hub carrier was produced with a casting flaw.

Checking a specific 1995 BMW 750IL

How do I know if my 1995 BMW 750IL has an open recall?

Enter your 17-character VIN above. The VIN is on the driver's side dashboard (visible through the windshield), the driver's door jamb sticker, and your registration or insurance card. The check runs against NHTSA's live database and tells you which campaigns list your vehicle. 3 campaigns currently list the 1995 BMW 750IL; your car may already have been repaired under some of them.

Is the recall repair free?

Yes. Under federal law, manufacturers must fix safety recalls at no charge for vehicles up to 15 years old from the date of sale to the first owner. Contact any authorised BMW dealer with your VIN and the NHTSA campaign number (for example 95V192000).

What is the difference between a recall and a complaint?

A recall is a safety campaign filed by the manufacturer or ordered by NHTSA, with a defined defect and remedy. A complaint is a report an owner sent to NHTSA; it is not verified, but patterns of complaints are what trigger NHTSA investigations and, eventually, recalls.

Recall counts are safety campaigns that list this model year; whether a particular car was already repaired depends on its VIN. How this data is compiled.
