  1. Hoses, lines/piping, and fittings (fuel system)

NHTSA 94V066000 Reported 116,300 vehicles potentially affected BAYERISCHE MOTOREN WERKE

Feed fuel hoses can harden and "set" over time, allowing a seepage of fuel at the connection between the hose and the engine fitting. The clamp used to hold the hose to the fitting is unable to compensate for the hardening of the feed fuel hose.

Remedy: A redesigned feed fuel hose and hose clamp will be installed to alleviate the fuel seepage.

  2. Heater core (visibility)

NHTSA 93V015000 Reported 375,000 vehicles potentially affected BAYERISCHE MOTOREN WERKE

The malfunction or failure of a coolant system component results in significantly increased coolant temperature and a resulting increase in system pressure.

Remedy: Dealers will install a thermostatic bypass valve in the engine compartment to control coolant temperature in the heater core. Also, a new design radiator cap will be installed, to control pressure and provide greater…

  3. Seats

NHTSA 92V055000 Reported 22,416 vehicles potentially affected BAYERISCHE MOTOREN WERKE

The vehicle failed to comply with FMVSS 208. The driver's chest resultant acceleration exceeded the allowable 60 g's in a crash test when the seat height changes adjustment under severe frontal impact.

Remedy: Install a damper on the underside of the driver's seat cushion, between the cushion frame and the seat track. In a severe frontal impact the damper will hydraulically lock, preventing a change in seat height.

Checking a specific 1992 BMW 325

How do I know if my 1992 BMW 325 has an open recall?

Enter your 17-character VIN above. The VIN is on the driver's side dashboard (visible through the windshield), the driver's door jamb sticker, and your registration or insurance card. The check runs against NHTSA's live database and tells you which campaigns list your vehicle. 3 campaigns currently list the 1992 BMW 325; your car may already have been repaired under some of them.

Is the recall repair free?

Yes. Under federal law, manufacturers must fix safety recalls at no charge for vehicles up to 15 years old from the date of sale to the first owner. Contact any authorised BMW dealer with your VIN and the NHTSA campaign number (for example 92V055000).

What is the difference between a recall and a complaint?

A recall is a safety campaign filed by the manufacturer or ordered by NHTSA, with a defined defect and remedy. A complaint is a report an owner sent to NHTSA; it is not verified, but patterns of complaints are what trigger NHTSA investigations and, eventually, recalls.
