All Mack MS300P recalls (6)

Every NHTSA safety campaign that lists a Mack MS300P, most recent first, with the model years each one covers.

  1. Reservoir/tank (service brakes)

NHTSA 89V035000 Reported 281 vehicles potentially affected MACK TRUCKS, INCORPORATED

Total capacity of air brake reservoir may be slightly less than required by FMVSS 121.

Remedy: Repair to assure correct total capacity of air brake reservoirs.

    Model years: 1988

  2. Pump (steering)

NHTSA 88V124000 Reported 294 vehicles potentially affected MACK TRUCKS, INCORPORATED

Power steering pumps may have a ridge inside the aluminum housing which could detach itself from the housing and become wedged inside the relief valve, keeping it open.

    Remedy: Replace power steering pump.

    Model years: 1988

  3. Gear box (other than rack and pinion) (steering)

NHTSA 83V101000 Reported 1,486 vehicles potentially affected MACK TRUCKS, INCORPORATED

Bolted installation of the steering gear housing has a tendency to loosen in service. This is due to a backward installation of the lockwashers, which are bellville type, and a resultant incorrect torque on the bolts.

Remedy: All recalled vehicles will have bellville type lockwashers at steering gear housing attach points replaced with standard split-type lockwashers.

    Model years: 1982, 1983

  4. Headlights (exterior lighting)

NHTSA 82V054000 Reported 5,700 vehicles potentially affected MACK TRUCKS, INCORPORATED

The circuit wiring on these vehicles is arranged so that a short circuit in the rear taillights will also result in loss of power to the headlamps. For safety reasons the lighting system wiring should be independent.

Remedy: Vehicles will have an automatic reset circuit breaker installed to ensure continued headlamp illumination in the event of a short in other lighting systems.

    Model years: 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982

  5. Fan/motor (visibility)

NHTSA 81V157000 Reported 4,920 vehicles potentially affected MACK TRUCKS, INCORPORATED

When the ignition key is in the "on" position and the heater is operating at the "low" or "medium" setting, the heater switch wiring will overload in the event the heater motor seizes.

Remedy: A speed variation resistance unit and an electric motor moisture protection cap will be installed without charge.

    Model years: 1979, 1980, 1981

  6. Driveline (power train)

NHTSA 81V089000 Reported 500 vehicles potentially affected MACK TRUCKS, INCORPORATED

Holes drilled in the rear axle yokes to balance them could cause a failure of the yoke.

Remedy: Vehicles will be inspected and all defective yokes will be replaced with yokes without holes.

    Model years: 1980, 1981
