  1. Cables (electrical system)

NHTSA 07V173000 Reported 52,240 vehicles potentially affected HARLEY-DAVIDSON MOTOR COMPANY

Certain motorcycles were built with a condition that permits the positive battery cable to contact a weld bead on the oil tank. This may cause the weld bead to abrade through the insulation on the cable and cause an electrical short from the battery through the oil tank and oil lines.

Remedy: Dealers will install a battery caddy that will protect the cable and ensure proper cable routing. This recall began on may 4, 2007. Owners may contact harley-davidson at 1-414-342-4080.

    Model years: 2007

  2. Tank assembly (fuel system)

NHTSA 99V200000 Reported 10,241 vehicles potentially affected HARLEY-DAVIDSON MOTOR COMPANY

Vehicle description: motorcycles. These motorcycles were built with a fuel tank vent fitting that could be plugged allowing the carburetor to overflow fuel.

Remedy: Dealers will inspect the fuel tank vent fitting and, if plugged, will correct this condition.

    Model years: 1999

  3. Relay (electrical system)

NHTSA 92V180000 Reported 77,407 vehicles potentially affected HARLEY-DAVIDSON MOTOR CO.

The starter relay may short circuit when the vehicle is parked.

    Remedy: Replace the starter relay.

    Model years: 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992

  4. Hoses, lines/piping, and fittings (service brakes)

NHTSA 89V184000 Reported 12,422 vehicles potentially affected HARLEY-DAVIDSON MOTOR CO.

A fatigue crack in the rear brake line assembly could develop.

Remedy: Install replacement rear brake line components.

    Model years: 1989, 1990

  5. Automatic transmission (power train)

NHTSA 86V041000 Reported 4,164 vehicles potentially affected HARLEY-DAVIDSON MOTOR CO.

Transmission magnetic drain plugs may have been broken during assembly. Consequence of defect: the broken magnet may become lodged between the transmission gears causing the transmission to lockup. If the motorcycle is operating, the rear wheel will lock-up which may lead to an accident.

Remedy: Replace the drain plug with a shorter, non interfering magnetic drain plug.

    Model years: 1986
