Every NHTSA safety campaign that lists a American Motors Gremlin, most recent first, with the model years each one covers.

  1. Hose, piping, and connections (steering)

NHTSA 78V070000 Reported 133,593 vehicles potentially affected CHRYSLER CORPORATION

The high pressure power steering hose may have been routed too close to the exhaust manifold. As a result, the heat from the manifold could damage the hose.

Remedy: Damaged hoses will be replaced and undamaged hoses will be properly routed as necessary.

    Model years: 1975, 1976

  2. Electrical system: module

NHTSA 78V048000 Reported 411,333 vehicles potentially affected CHRYSLER CORPORATION

The electronic ignition system sensor circuit contains a two-wire connector which could cause difficulty in the engine ignition. This difficulty may be caused by mechanical or chemical actions at the connector.

Remedy: The two-wire connector will be modified by the dealer by cutting and solder-splicing the wires.

    Model years: 1974, 1975, 1976

  3. Electrical system: front underhood

NHTSA 77V226000 Reported 2,041 vehicles potentially affected CHRYSLER CORPORATION

On the involved vehicles interference may exist between the instrument panel wiring harness and the clutch linkage. As a result of this interference, the harness may become chafed by the clutch linkage during normal clutch operation. This condition could lead to an electrical fire should an electrical shortage occur.

Remedy: Dealer will eliminate any interference between the clutch linkage and main instrument panel harness, without charge.

    Model years: 1978

  4. Vehicle speed control

NHTSA 77V069000 Reported 3,085 vehicles potentially affected CHRYSLER CORPORATION

On the involved vehicles, the accelerator cable may have an overly long plastic sleeve at its carburetor end. This could allow the sleeve to become stuck in the end-fitting when the accelerator pedal is pressed to the floor. This would cause the throttle to stick in the open position.

Remedy: Dealer will inspect and, if necessary, install an accelerator cable of the proper length, at no charge to owner.

    Model years: 1977

NHTSA 75V103000 Reported 918 vehicles potentially affected CHRYSLER CORPORATION
