Trailer hitches
Heil Company (Heil) is recalling certain model year 2000-2014 Petroleum Pull Trailers manufactured August 29, 2000, to September 12, 2014. On the affected trailers, the cables of the secondary coupling system may fail to keep the trailer connected to the tow vehicle if the pintle hitch connection should fail.
Remedy: Heil will notify owners and dealers and will install larger diameter secondary coupling cables, free of charge. The recall began on December 29, 2014. Owners may contact Heil customer service at 1-800-400-6913.

The check runs against NHTSA's live database and tells you which campaigns list your vehicle. 1 campaign currently lists the 2013 Heil Petroleum Pull Trailer; your car may already have been repaired under it.
Is the recall repair free?
Yes. Under federal law, manufacturers must fix safety recalls at no charge for vehicles up to 15 years old from the date of sale to the first owner. Contact any authorised Heil dealer with your VIN and the NHTSA campaign number (for example 14V761000).
What is the difference between a recall and a complaint?
A recall is a safety campaign filed by the manufacturer or ordered by NHTSA, with a defined defect and remedy. A complaint is a report an owner sent to NHTSA; it is not verified, but patterns of complaints are what trigger NHTSA investigations and, eventually, recalls.
